Bourke View Playground Public Art

As a part of the playground renewal project we will install a public art piece at Bourke View Park to add to the visual amenity, promote cultural diversity and celebrate Place.

Investing in public art is an important mandate of local governments to add cultural, aesthetic and economic benefits for the community. Committing to high-quality public art also provides an opportunity for local artisans living and working in the City of Swan.

It could be anything – tell us your ideas! Ideally, we would like to see local themes and stories that reflect the place where public art is installed, however, all ideas are welcome.

We are seeking your feedback and ideas via our community survey. Common ideas and themes will be considered as part of the artist brief which may influence the final designs presented to the City.

It is anticipated that the artwork will be installed in the 2024/2025 financial year depending on the art commissioning process and playground installation schedule.

The public art installation project - while scheduled alongside the playground upgrades - is a separate project with separate funding.

An artist brief, or creative brief, helps to establish a creative direction for potential artists to develop concept designs for future artworks. This document sets the vision, scope and additional criteria of what the City requires for a future public art piece. Usually the artist brief will contain information of preferred/possible themes, scheduling, target audience and site information.

Potential artists will then submit an expression of interest with conceptual designs which is then shortlisted by an art selection panel consisting of a community representative, project manager and professional artist.
